Sacred Dham
Yamunotri
Journey to the holy source of the river Yamuna.
About Yamunotri
Yamunotri is the first stop in the traditional Char Dham Yatra. Situated at an altitude of 3,293 meters, it is the seat of Goddess Yamuna. According to legend, bathing in its holy waters cleanses one of all sins and protects from an untimely death. The actual source, the Champasar Glacier, is further up but the temple is the gathering point for devotees. Pilgrims take a ritual dip in the Surya Kund, where they cook rice and potatoes in boiling thermal springs as a sacred offering.
